MAKE ENERGY CONSERVATION AN ACTIVE PART OF YOUR DAILY LIFE: Check the boxes below and commit to taking these simple steps to help curb global warming:

USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) use 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last 10 times longer. Cool Columbia will get you started by trading you one CFL for an incandescent bulb. You can get additional CFLs from your building superintendent at the same price the University pays for the bulbs.

POWER OFF
In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while products are turned off. This can be avoided by unplugging the appliance when not in use or using a power strip and using the switch on the power strip to cut all power to the appliance.

BUY GREEN POWER
“Green” power is electricity produced from renewable resources such as solar or wind energy. If you replace four incandescent bulbs with CFLs, you’ll be saving about $4 a month – enough to buy green power! You can switch to green power easily at www.poweryourway.com or contact your electricity supplier.
